A student at American University in Washington, D.C., Alec Christopher Schemmel balances a dedication to academics with a commitment to news, politics and personal development. He is currently majoring in journalism at American University, where he has made the Dean’s List and was invited to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Alec Schemmel also belongs to several civic organizations, including Young Americans for Liberty and Students for Free Expression.
Alec Schemmel has also gained a wide range of journalism and political experience through his professional efforts. In 2019, he completed a rigorous 12-week training program at the National Journalism Center, and he has worked as a freelance journalist, copy editor and editorial intern for publications such as the Daily Caller, the College Fix and American Way of Life (AWOL) investigative magazine at AU. As an intern at the Daily Caller, he penned articles and produced, directed and edited videos that reached an audience of hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Alec Schemmel accrued additional experience in the political realm as a congressional intern on Capitol Hill, where he engaged in constituent services, communication management, legislative research, and other duties to support the smooth operation of the office. He has also worked as an intern at the Impact Center, a nonprofit women’s leadership foundation based in Washington, D.C., and The Center for Mind-Body Medicine, an NGO also out of Washington that focuses on addressing trauma in crisis areas across the world.
